Cindy’s Creations

The list continues to grow but I’m having loads of fun. While at the LQS I purchased the book Sleepy Acres by Amy Bradley Designs. I haven’t started this quilt and I won’t for a while, I must finish Jon’s before I start another quilt for Nikolas.

I also purchased a circular sewing attachment. Dee Ann gave me a quick demo and I can’t wait to quilt something using this attachment.

The attachment didn’t cost quite as much as a walking foot and I’m hoping it will add some quilting interest to my quilts, since I seem to be freemotion quilting challeneged.

I also joined a challenge on a machine applique’ group I belong to and a swap all on the same day. lol I’m looking forward to both.

The group owner kept reading about all the quilts being made and give to others so she challenged us to make something for ourself. The rules were simple, background must be birthstone color, no bigger than a fat qtr, must have birth month flower on it and be finished by June 30, ’08. I purchased Batiks. Do you know how hard it is to cut Batiks? My birthstone is blue sapphire and the flower is an Aster. When I saw the flower I started to worry. lol After finding a coloring page of an Aster, I took it to Staples and had it blown up and while I was tracing the flower on fusible I figured out how to make the flower without it taking me years.

Miniature Booty Swap
1. 100% quality cotton – prewash is recommended
2. No larger than 20″ x 20″ — 51 cm x 51 cm
3. Completely finished, quilted, binding and label with month/year/name

After signing up for this swap, I grabbed my little quilts book and started drooling. I can’t wait to get the details of my person so I can get started. This quilt must be finished and in the mail by May 31st.

Hope everyone had a wonderful easter. We woke up to rain, 25 mph winds and 48 degrees, which made it very chilly in NM.

We had a quiet day with DH watching TV and me reading 2 new knitting books and teaching myself to cast on and do the knit stitch. I’ve ripped all the stitches out as I had purchased very fine yarn. I will be picking up some worsted yarn, like the book calls for. All my life I’ve wanted to know how to knit and could never find anyone to teach me, I don’t know why I hadn’t thought of using the internet and teach yourself books before. Thanks to CraftyGryphon for inspiring me.

Quilting one hour at a time I got all of Sweet Baby Jane quilted. Granted I did minimal quilting and nothing fancy but it is still done.

I’m very pleased with the quilt-y things I accomplished yesterday. I got the buttons on Waiting on St. Nick, finished the tea towel, layered and basted Sweet Baby Jane and layered and basted Sunflowers Forever. I will be happy if I get 1/4 of Sweet Baby Jane quilted today. No way am I going to try to quilt all of it in one day. I don’t even know how I’m going to quilt it nor do I know if my walking foot will fit my new machine.

Terrific Tuesday

I went shopping Sat. for the fabric for the pattern My Friend, Ted. Only I’m calling my quilt My Friend, Mary Lou. Playing with fabric is sew much fun. Sorry the photo of the pattern is so bad.I thought Mary Lou need pink in a quilt in her memory. The pink fabric with the little bones on it (lwr rt corner) is the backing. Then today I was trying to get some organization to my scraps that I use for applique’ and I found a pattern Marie sent me last year. I started pulling fabrics, got fabrics fused on the background and the little quilt layered. I will pin baste it later this evening. I’m so excited that I found this pattern. The pattern is called Waiting on St. Nick. I’m going to appli-quilt the little quilt.I’m taking the little quilt with me tomorrow to my new sewing group. Yes, I’ve found a sewing group of senior ladies. lol I’m the youngest member but I am so excited to be quilting with these ladies there is no telling what all I can learn. Tomorrow they are having a pot luck so I will make bread pudding because people out here don’t know what bread pudding is. Oh yeah, they are starting a block of the month but they are going to do a block each week. I needed another BOM so I will be doing that also.Mostly applique’ even the flying geese are applique’ and the ladies said they would help me with the pieced blocks. So my fabric is all cut for the Dolly Madison star and I’m so excited. Did I already say I was excited?? Oh well, I’m really really excited. Lacy can have the Sweet Baby Jane quilt as the Pretty ‘n Pink is going to be mine all mine.I’m off to start the breading pudding and finish gathering up all my supplies for tomorrow.
Happy quilting

I finished the Sweet Baby Jane quilt top. Now granted it only throw size (65″ x 65″) and it still needs to be quilted but I’m still excited to be this far along.
I now have a corner to keep my machines set up.
Lacy bought this panel while she was here, all I had to do was put the binding on it. It matches Nikolas’s new bedding.
Today I want to get caught up on my Farmer’s Market. Woohoo!!

The plan

I’ve had no desire to quilt lately. No ideas swirling around in my head. Couldn’t even find any fabric to buy. I find this mood very depressing. Well, I’m going to try to take the bull by horns, so to speak and pull myself out of this mood. A friend who got out of the habit of quilting forced herself to quilt 1 hour each day and she soon found she was happily quilting again. I tried that and it didn’t work. So I’m going to try setting 5 little goals.

1. Make Ducky rows all the same length.
2. Piece Farmer’s Market blocks together
3. Chocolate and pink purse
4. Practice paper-piecing
5. Sweet Baby Jane

I need to purchase fabric for the sashings for the Farmer’s Market quilt and I think I will need to purchase fabric for the borders for the Ducky quilt, so I will do that tomorrow.

Happy quilting!!

Weekly quilt update & goal

Happy Monday! The past week was pretty good. Of course, as always I didn’t accomplish quite as much as I had wanted to. Joined another quilt guild, this one is in Hobbs, they get together every Wed. morning to sew together. What fun! It will take me less than 10 minutes to drive there. I can’t wait.

I’ve never done paper-piecing but I’ve signed up for a class, joined an online group and printed a pattern for a birdhouse wall hanging. Looks much easier than I had thought. 😀

Crooked Log Cabin Ducky Quilt– I didn’t touch this quilt all last week. I’m pitiful.
Sweet Baby Jane– Another quilt I didn’t touch all week.
Piecing the Trail to Kansas – YAY!! Got my pattern and purchased enough fabric for the background and enough fabric to get me started. I’m going to use cream and red. I’m sure I will have to incorporate some other colors. I’m so excited to get started on this quilt. I sat and read the story behind the quilt.
Chocolate & Pink Purse #1– Nope, didn’t work on this either.
Friends Quilt– This top is finished but I’m not ready to drop it off at the quilter’s. I’m still enjoying just looking at it.
Butterfly Pillowcase– I was really surprised at how much I had got done on this when I took it out of the hoop. This project is hard to work on because of all the extra fabric from the pillowcase is always in the way.
Animals on Parade– I only worked on this one afternoon. Which there is no rush doing this since it is for my kitchen.

Weekly Goals for Project List
Apples and Pie (paperpieced) – select fabrics, piece

Birdhouse (paperpieced) – select fabrics, piece

Chocolate & Pink Purse – cut lining, sew

Chocolate & Pink Tote – cut, sew

Piecing the Trail to Kansas- BOM cut and sew Sept block

Rubber Ducky – cut yellow strips & sew, cut navy strips & sew

SpongeBob – layer, baste, quilt

Sweet Baby Jane – cut strips, sew strips together, add borders

Happy quilting!

Happy Monday!

Happy Monday! The past week was pretty good. Of course, as always I didn’t accomplish quite as much as I had wanted to.

Crooked Log Cabin Ducky Quilt – Worked on the ducky blocks until I ran out of the fabric I’m using for the framing. I did pick up some more Saturday at the LQS. When I get all the ducky’s framed I will post photos.

Sweet Baby Jane – This quilt is going to be gorgeous, even if I do say so myself. lol Last week I got the center cut and sewed together. I did make the decision to buy another jelly roll of the Sweet Baby Jane fabric. I will cut the strips into various lenths to use as borders. Wish it was on my list of things to do today.

Piecing the Trail to Kansas – My pattern didn’t come in but the owner of the LQS thought it would be here Tuesday. Although I was disappointed, if I get it this week I still have plenty of time to make the first block before Oct’s class.

Chocolate & Pink Purse #1 – got the purse all cut out yesterday. I probably won’t get to start sewing it until tomorrow. With all I have to do tomorrow it could even be Wednesday. Don’t you just hate it when life gets in the way of quilting?

Friends Quilt – I’m ashamed of myself where this quilt is concerned. The quilt is going to be beautiful with all the blocks that my friends gave me. So what is my problem with cutting the borders and sewing them on? If I don’t do anything else today, I’m putting the borders on the quilt. While at my LQS Saturday I asked about having the quilt quilted, I am just not equiped to machine quilt a queen size quilt. Having never paid anyone to quilt a quilt for me I was a little surprised to learn it would cost $150. The owner told me that she would do it all over meandering but I told her I didn’t want that, I want it quilted in the ditch. I didn’t think she acted like she was very happy with my saying that. So now I’m really undecided.

These are the goodies that I purchased Saturday at my LQS. The Breast Cancer fat quarters I am sending to my cousin who is a quilter and a breast cancer survivor. The halloween fat quarters are for a swap. Oh my goodness!! There were so many cute fabrics for halloween. The yellow fabric is what I’m using to frame the ducky blocks.

This is the free fat quarter I got coming into the shop on Saturday.

The chocolate and pink fabric is so yummy! I think I’m going to have to buy some of all of it and make a quilt. Wouldn’t that be wonderful to be covered in chocolate and pink?

Have a wonderful quilt-y day!
